True Potential Early Learn is preschool with a difference. It is a learning environment that caters to the different needs of the children in its care. The goal is to make each child a well-rounded individual equipped with the basic foundations that will make them believe in themselves, boost their self-confidence and morale, and be ready for preschool.
The areas of learning we focus on are;
Cognitive:Children’s cognitive development refers to their abilities to reason, think, and understand. This area of development is very important for their knowledge growth in preschool and kindergarten. Cognitively children learn to ask questions, spatial relationships, problem solve, imitate and copy others, memory, and number sense through symbolic play
Communication: At True Potential Early Learn we strive to develop students’ receptive and expressive skills. Receptive language is the ability to understand spoken language that is heard or read. For example, a child’s ability to follow one-step or two-step commands. Expressive Language is the ability to express words verbally or nonverbally. Children are motivated to put their thoughts into words or sentences so that it makes sense
Large Motor: large motor skills are important as they allows children to engage in everyday activities such as walking, running, climbing, throwing catching a ball, etc. These skills are important to everyday self-care as children may need to balance on one leg to put in a pants leg without falling o climbing into a car without falling. Large motor skills impact children’s ability to move around their environment, ambulate up and down stairs, etc. Without appropriate fine motor skills, children may not be able to carry out many day-to-day skills functionally.
Fine Motor: Fine motor skills can be classified as the small movements of muscles that include using the hands and fingers. These types of movements are important for children to develop as they help lay the foundation for children to perform day-to-day tasks such as buttoning their shirts, tying their shoes lace holding pencils with the correct grasp,
Social Emotional; At True Potential Early Learn we believe that Social and Emotional Learning is very important for helping children to understand and manage their emotions, and feelings to show empathy for others, establish healthy relationships, and help them improve the way they perceive and treat others.
The purpose of True Potential Early Learn is to provide a quality education through play in a warm, caring, friendly, and nurturing environment. Our focus is developing the overall well-being of our learners by focusing on and improving their communication, cognitive fine motor, gross motor, and social-emotional skills. Our overall purpose is to guide, motivate, and provide stimulating learning activities that appeal to the different learning models so that our students can benefit from the learning opportunities using their preferred learning styles.
As a family childcare provider, my goal is to provide safe happy, and conducive learning for children where they can thrive physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially at their own pace. I believe that each child can learn when given the right opportunities. At True Potential Early Learn, we believe that children can maximize their learning potential through play and the flexibility of a structured schedule. Activities will be geared towards building students’ self-efficacy by stimulating their sensory-motor development, language, and social interaction,
Dr. Russell-Palmer has a PhD in Special Education, and an MSc. in Early Children Special Education and has been teaching students with special needs for approximately ten (10) years. Children are classified with one of thirteen disability classifications. The organization sees the need for an inclusion setting. Early childhood inclusion takes into consideration values, practices, and policies that support the rights of all students (with and without disabilities) to participate and learn in a regular classroom setting. The advantage of children with and without disabilities learning together in an inclusion setting is that gives them a sense of belonging, positive social interactions, and friendship.
Research has shown that many benefits come from inclusion in early childhood. How young children are treated has a dramatic impact on how they view themselves and the world around them. When children are excluded, it can diminish their feelings of self-worth and confidence and have a negative impact on their social-emotional skills and the relationships they form with other children and their teachers. When children are included, they feel valued and respected and are more likely to have positive opinions about their teachers, peers, and learning. When you promote inclusion among children in your care, there are benefits for all children and their families.
Communication is the key. It is one of the most important factors in a successful relationship. When your child becomes enrolled in the program, I would love for us to have an open dialogue about the well-being of your child. This includes any questions or concerns that may arise on both sides. It is very important that I am able to get you at any time while your child is in my care, I welcome any questions, feedback, or discussion you may have. Matters that are deemed sensitive will not be discussed over the phone but in private. Our children’s safety is of the utmost importance so conferences will not be scheduled as a routine activity that is a part of the child care. However, you can request one at any time.
Communication will take place through different forms. A monthly calendar or newsletter will be sent home with reminders of important dates of events that will be taking place, field trips, curriculum themes, or information that is of importance or simply of interest to you. If your child celebrates an important milestone or has an upcoming birthday and you would like to share it with other parents, please feel free to share it in our newsletter. Please note that there will not be a daily note sent home. However, if there is something that I think you should be aware of I will inform you through written communications.
I will try to make myself available at all times to take your call. However, there will be times when I am busy with the children and cannot take a call at that moment. Please leave a message on the voicemail and I will get back to you at my earliest time available.
At True Potential Early Learn our main goal is the safety of all our students. However, in the case of a serious accident, or an emergency, we will administer the necessary first aid. If in need of further treatment 911 will be called your child will be transported to the hospital. The parent will be notified immediately.
There will be a yearly revision of this handbook and the accompanying contract. All families will sign a new contract each year. The provider can make necessary changes in the policies of the organization and rates as determined necessary. Parents will be aware of these changes with at least two weeks’ notice.
